But How Do I Wear It?

“But where do I wear it?”

The million-dollar question I’m asked every single day. I was raised on the idea that when you look your best, you will feel your best. I distinctly remember days I would be at home sick and my mom would tell me to take a shower and do my hair as if I was going out; each time saying it will make me feel better… and it did. From childhood it was instilled in me that fashion is a form of expression and it is a way to make you feel the way you want to feel. And just like that, my over-the-top style was born.

It doesn’t matter if I’m just running out to get groceries, or if I’m going to an actual event. I’m always over dressed and ready to go. Most people feel self-conscious if they’re over dressed, but have you ever attended an event where you were severely underdressed? Ya. Remember that feeling and how uncomfortable that was. So, to me, you can never be overdressed.

My keys to styling over the top pieces:

It is to just wear with it the opposite of what you would wear if you were going to a wedding or cocktail party. For me this means, if I’m wearing a tutu dress, I’m going to wear docs with it instead of heels, and maybe I’ll layer it with a sweater or a faux leather jacket. These few little pieces take an event dress and make it casual but chic. This method honestly works with every single dress you have in your closet, and I can say this confidently because I know you don’t have as many wild pieces in your closet as I do. So, if I can make it work; I PROMISE you, you can too.

I’m quiet honestly used to sticking out like a sore thumb and with dressing a certain way you have to be prepared. In all my years of not caring what people think of how I dress, I have received more compliments than snarky comments. And the best part of it all is walking into a room and knowing that you just commanded everyone’s attention. Nothing screams power like making a room stop what they’re doing and look at you.

So, stop dressing for others, stop dressing for what you think is acceptable or in style. Dress for the day you want to have and how you want to feel
