Behind The Tutu, Platforms & Pink

The more over the top, the better.

I’m impossibly impatient, and am always moving 5 steps ahead. My style changes daily; every day I wake up I’m someone different, and am inspired by something new.

I grew up with two older sisters who were into fashion and music. Instead of watching child cartoons I’d usually be watching Fashion Television, reality shows that were way too mature for me, and listening to classic rock. I grew up with a MAJOR obsession for Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford, and Marc Jacobs. I grew up not knowing what I wanted to be and thankfully was heavily influenced by my sisters and mom to be creative, passionate, and to ALWAYS go against the grain.

When I graduated high school, I decided to attend University for writing in hopes of being a fashion writer. My first year I decided to volunteer for Toronto Fashion Week, and at the time I was an intern for an online fashion blog. I got to attend Fashion week as both a writer and volunteer. And I hate to say it, but the experience was AWFUL. Growing up with Alexander McQueen the world of fashion you learn is something that is entirely subjective and purely creative.

I went to Fashion Week expecting this world, only to find that there was no individualism and everyone was a clone. I felt so defeated and heart broken because the world I dreamed of was nothing close to what I needed. That same night on my way home, I realized that I’m a black sheep. I never entirely fit in with friends or people of my age, and here I was in my dream industry where once again I didn’t fit in. I decided I wanted to create a world for the black sheep; a world where you can stand out, be whoever you want with ZERO judgement.

After this I decided to drop out of University and eventually open a clothing store. The following years I attended different colleges looking for a program that would help me pursue this dream; only to drop out each time because I found that it was a complete and utter scam. I continued working at various jobs learning about retail and the nitty gritty of business, in the meantime I continued my hunt for clothing stores, people, and places that I felt at home; each time coming up empty handed. This only confirmed that I needed to create a space for myself because I knew there were other black sheep out there.

Fast forward to 2018; still pursuing the dream of opening a clothing store and being a college, university, and online learning drop out 4 times over; my then high school boyfriend (now fiancé) was driving me home after a 4-hour nail appointment and turned to me to ask about my dream. This was something that was talked about all the time, but he wanted to know every single detail. After giving him every answer even down to the music that would be played; he asked me if I would be interested in having him as a co-owner. And just like that Ivory Sheep was born.
